Dr. Shon currently holds the position of Principal Surveyor in the Marine & Ocean Equipment Team at Korean Register in Busan, Republic of Korea, where he has worked since December 2013. In this role, he serves as the assistant administrator for the Republic of Korea delegation to the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) and Sub-Committee on Pollution Prevention and Response (PPR). He focuses on critical environmental issues such as the Ballast Water Management Convention and Ship’s Biofouling Management, including In-water Cleaning.

Dr. Shon is also responsible for BWMS Type approval testing for both the Korean Government and the United States Coast Guard (USCG). His expertise extends to Class Type approval of BWMS, ensuring that these systems meet rigorous international standards for marine environmental protection.
