Peter Tirschwell is Vice President for the Journal of Commerce in the Global Intelligence and Analytics division of S&P Global Market Intelligence, a global data, analytics and business intelligence organization serving sectors including maritime, energy, automotive, petrochemical and financial. In his role Peter leads The Journal of Commerce, the historic New York City maritime newspaper founded in 1827, which today is a team of specialized business journalists focused on the end-to-end international container shipping supply chain including shipping, ports, airfreight, trucking, rail and home delivery, addressed to the needs of shippers or BCOs.

A career business journalist, Peter has served in a variety of capacities including maritime reporter, West Coast Bureau Chief, Editor in Chief, head of strategy and Publisher of The Journal of Commerce, over the course of his 30+ year career with the Journal of Commerce beginning in the early 1990s. He is the founder and chairman of the Journal of Commerce TPM conference in Long Beach, Calif., the world’s largest container shipping conference, founded in 2001, which in 2025 marked its 25th year. He writes a long-time Journal of Commerce column, speaks regularly at industry events and has been quoted in or written op-ed commentary for mainstream business media including The Wall Street JournalCNBC and The Washington Post, CBS News, NPR, The Financial Times, The New York Times and others. He recently completed a two-year residency in Singapore.
