Alessandro Marino received his Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from the University of Genoa (Italy) in 2015, his M.Sc. degree in Naval Architecture from Newcastle University (UK) in 2016 and he is currently enrolled as a PhD student in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering at the University of Strathclyde (UK).
From 2020 he has been working at the Merchant Ships Division of Fincantieri S.p.A. (Italy) as a Naval Architect, focusing on hull shape design, propeller design, hydrodynamics and aerodynamics analyses. His activities include experimental and computational fluid dynamics, manoeuvring and seakeeping testing, URN analysis, sea trial testing.
He has a research background, with a specific focus on biomimetics applied to underwater structures. In particular, he studied the application of humpback whales’ tubercles to flat plates and ship structures, assessing their impact in terms of potential drag reduction and fouling prevention. He is author and coauthor of scientific conference and journal papers on this, and other applied naval architecture topics.
