Capt Belal’s career in Maritime Industry spans more than four decades. Joining as a cadet at sea in 1978 he eventually left career to take up challenges of Ship management in 2000. From 2001 till now he worked in various Sr. management Capacity and since 2010 as Managing Director of Western Shipping in Singapore. His active involvement in various industry matters through his association with IMEC, meant he participated in numerous meetings, conferences and negotiations. His term as Chairman of IMEC from 2019 to 2025 marked years of progress for the organization that contributed greatly on global cooperation during Covid pandemic crisis and various other fields. Together with ITF IMEC and ICS the idea of a Global Partnership to solve today’s industry challenges is taking shape. Decarbonization, Training for future, Seafarers recruitment are all core issues that Capt Belal is passionate about and continuously engages industry leaders towards finding a sustainable shipping solutions for all.
