Since February 2010, Ralf Nagel is Chief Executive Officer of the German Shipowners’ Association.
“Germany as one of the leading maritime nations of the world is dependent on a seemless global trade.
To create a stable and coherent international framework for the successful long-term development of the German shipping industry, we need a global organisation like ICS that sets the international agenda for the global shipping industry, that mediates political bargaining, providing a place for political initiatives and acting as catalysts for a coalition-formation with maritime partner nations.”
Ralf started his career in 1985 as a scientific assistant to a Member of the German Parliament. In 1994, he became State Secretary of the Ministry for Housing, Urban Development and Transport of the Federal State of Saxony-Anhalt and five years later State Secretary of the Ministry of Economics and Technology.
In 2000, Nagel became part of the government of the German Chancellor Schröder as State Secretary of the Federal Ministry for Transport, Building and Housing. From 2007 until 2010, he served as Senator (Minister) for Economics and Ports and Senator for Justice and the Constitution for the Federal State of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen.
Ralf Nagel was born in Karlsruhe, Germany. He holds a Master’s degree in political science, sociology and psychology awarded from the University of Heidelberg and has served in the German Navy as officer cadet.
