The shipping industry remains extremely concerned about the fact that seafarers continue to be in the front line of the geopolitical conflict in the Red Sea, Black Sea and Ukraine where some have been killed and others continue to be held hostage.

In response to this, ICS convened a ‘Seafarers Welfare Group for Emergency Events’ meeting as there was a pressing need for coordinated industry efforts to support seafarers and their families impacted by the ongoing conflicts. The group consist of stakeholders such as ILO, IMO, ITF, ICS, alongside seafarer welfare partners for cooperation on the current situation.

The current crises are putting seafarers at risk and creating a stressful situation for crews and their families. To ensure that companies and their crews have access to the most up-to-date support helplines, the welfare group has created a poster listing the resources available.
