Vehicle Carrier Safety Forum publishes guidance on fire response

The Vehicle Carrier Safety Forum is a consortium of vessel operators, insurers and other industry experts, whose role is to promote safety on vessels designed to carry vehicles. The guidance is supported by industry bodies the International Group of P&I Clubs, the International Chamber of Shipping and the TT Club. The guidelines are intended to be used by vessel operators when considering their own fire response policies and procedures with a particular emphasis on using existing fixed firefighting systems to control vehicle fires early in their development.

Global shipping community reaffirms support for seafarers with groundbreaking updates to ILO’s Maritime Labour Convention

Monday, 14 April, Geneva – The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) welcomes the series of landmark updates to ILO’s Maritime Labour Convention (MLC), following an intense week of negotiations at the International Labour Organization (ILO) headquarters in Geneva. Under ILO’s Special Tripartite Committee on the MLC, governments, shipowners, and unions met from 7-11 April, to review and adopt crucial updates that reflect the evolving needs of seafarers and the maritime industry.

Landmark MOU signed to simplify the future of digital seafarer certification

The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS), Lloyd’s Register OneOcean (LROO) and the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) of the Republic of the Philippines Department of Transportation, signed a landmark joint Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The MOU outlines the collaboration on a pilot project to explore the integration of seafarer certification systems to facilitate seamless verification. The purpose of this pilot is to test the feasibility of a digital system where all seafarer certificates can be securely stored and consolidated, allowing real-time access for all key stakeholders.

47 Governments and global industry jointly propose text for GHG emissions pricing mechanism for international shipping  

9 January 2025, London: To achieve net zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from international shipping by 2050, the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) has joined 47 governments in a joint submission to the final round of negotiations at the United Nations’ International Maritime Organization (IMO) to adopt a maritime greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions pricing mechanism for international shipping.
