The LMA and ICS wanted to make a clause available to their members, designed to:
Ensure that in the event of an emergency, it is clear that the master and / or owners can proceed to use LOF to obtain salvage services without delay;
The LMA and ICS also wanted to set out a clear procedure for dealing with emergency circumstances where there is no immediate danger;
The clause also sets out a process for owners to notify hull underwriters and take their views as to the appropriate contract to be used in such circumstances (whether LOF or some other contract).

• To help achieve net zero shipping emissions by 2050, shipping industry joins Bahamas and Liberia in comprehensive new proposal to IMO, for an annual greenhouse gas (GHG) emission fee.
• Revenue generated will support feebate (rewards) programme to incentivise accelerated production and uptake of zero/near-zero GHG marine fuels, plus a separate IMO Fund to be allocated billions of dollars annually to support maritime GHG reduction efforts in developing countries.
• ICS emphasises that delivery of IMO GHG reduction targets for 2030, 2040 and 2050 will only be plausible if governments ‘bite the bullet’ and adopt a maritime GHG emission pricing mechanism in 2025 for global implementation in 2027.

The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) and the Chamber of Marine Commerce, Canada (CMC) convened industry leaders in Montreal on Thursday 13 June to discuss the challenges and risks to global trade at the flagship Shaping the Future of Shipping Summit.
Top of the agenda were the critical issues impacting maritime sector including increased protectionism, global geopolitical conflicts, decarbonisation and future fuels, and the importance of seafarers.
Industry leaders called on governments to recognise the negative impacts to global trade that increased protectionism is having.
