Sarah is a qualified lawyer specialising in the area of workplace relations and employment law having been admitted to practice in 2006 in Australia.

She has spent time working abroad working for the UK Treasury Solicitors Office and has more than 10 years experience within the maritime industry working for industry associations and vessel operators.

Sarah heads up MIAL’s workplace relations function and represents employers at a range of industry fora in Australia and internationally. She is passionate about the maritime industry and the critical role it plays in Australia’s national interests.

Through her involvement with the Australian Seafarers Welfare Council Sarah sees first hand how the implementation and wide ratification of the Maritime Labour Convention had improved conditions and avenues of redress for seafarers and held operators to account.

Sarah holds a bachelor of laws (Hons) and a bachelor of Arts (majoring in politics) and has undertaken further study in international relations and maritime law both of which assists in her current role at MIAL.

The ability of the ICS Labour Affairs Committee to engage in robust discussion yet more often that not reach a consensus position going forward shows an excellent understanding of the global nature of the industry. The Committee is absolutely committed to improving the working lives of seafarers globally.
