Jonathan is ICS’ Principal Director (Marine) and therefore heads the Marine Department which is responsible for all matters relating to marine regulatory affairs concerning safety, security, training and prevention of pollution as well as matters relating to ship technical operations. Jonathan is also ICS’ Accredited Representative to the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

Having worked in the marine industry all my life the opportunity to work for an organization as highly respected as ICS means that with my team we can really make a difference when it comes to regulatory matters and ensuring ships and their crews are safe and pollution is prevented.

A Chartered Engineer and Member of the IMarEST he is qualified in both marine engineering and naval architecture and has over 39 years of experience in the marine industry. Jonathan started his career as a sea-going engineer officer working for Canadian Pacific, Mobil and P&O.

Before joining ICS he was the London office General Manager for the world’s 2nd largest ship registry, Liberia, prior to which he worked for a total of over 20 years for the Classification Societies Lloyd’s Register and RINA SpA where he held various positions including Quality Director, Global Marine Training Manager and Ship New Construction Project Manager. Jonathan has worked in China, Italy, South Korea and the UK.

Jonathan is also Chair of the IACS Quality Advisory Committee (AVC) and is a member of Korean Register’s European Committee and Lloyd’s Register’s Technical Committee.
