About 2026

At a time of continued heightened geopolitical tension, contested trade routes, climate-related disruption, cyber risk and growing fragmentation in the global economy, trade resilience has become a strategic imperative for governments and industry alike. The Summit will consider how maritime trade can adapt to an operating environment defined not by isolated shocks, but by overlapping and persistent crises that require coordinated, practical and investable responses.

Disruptions to key shipping lanes and energy corridors have exposed structural vulnerabilities across supply chains, while rising protectionism, shifting alliances and the reconfiguration of value chains are reshaping trade and investment flows. Against this backdrop, this 3rd edition of the Hong Kong Global Maritime Trade Summit will bring together ministers, policy makers and industry leaders to examine the practical steps needed to safeguard the efficient functioning of global shipping, strengthen supply chain resilience, expand regional cooperation and mobilise the finance, legal, insurance and digital frameworks that support maritime trade.

Hosted in Hong Kong SAR immediately ahead of the APEC Economic Leader’s Meeting, the Summit will provide a timely platform for cross-sector dialogue aimed at strengthening partnerships, sharing experiences, and enhancing resilience and security across the maritime value chain.

A key emphasis of the Summit will be the practical steps that governments and industry are taking to ensure freedom of navigation and increase the resilience of supply chains. These will include strengthening regional alliances, increasing flexibility with re-routing options, and the development of multi-modal trade corridors connecting ports with rail, road and inland waterways.

The Summit will also examine how digitalisation, data-sharing, and interoperable trade systems are key to making trade faster, simpler and more secure.

Discussions will also explore risk mitigation, examine where resilience already exists, and discuss resilience as a necessary continuous process in today’s geopolitical climate.
