Dr Shahrin has more than 30years of maritime industry experience and has been a frequent guest speaker and panellist at industry conferences focussing on the topic of Maritime Cluster, Digitalisation, and Sustainability in the maritime sector. He has been a project manager and project sponsor for numerous maritime decarbonization advisory projects in South East Asia, India, ANZ, and the Middle East involving feasibility studies and strategies on alternative marine fuels. In his current role, he is responsible for the maritime consulting business, R&D, and innovation within the areas of decarbonization in Shipping, as well as digitalization initiatives. He is also taking an advisor role for digital start-ups and scale-ups. Dr Shahrin is concurrently the Director, Maritime Decarbonisation & Autonomy Centre of Excellence located in Singapore.
He has extensive experience in strategy development for maritime decarbonization and also working with several shipping players in their digital transformation journey, incorporating strategy, roadmap development, and implementation to achieve emission reductions, safer operations, and OPEX reduction. He is currently overseeing the DNV-led consortium for the GCMD Ammonia Bunkering Safety Study, and alternative fuel demand forecast tool.
In 2021, he was appointed to the Maritime Industry Advisory Council at Singapore Maritime Academy, and in 2022 appointed as a member of the Technology Advisory Panel for Singapore Maritime Institute, the R&D unit of MPA Singapore.
He has a Doctorate degree with his research focus on Industry Cluster Strategy and Innovation Ecosystem, and MSc in Maritime Studies from NTU Singapore. Dr Shahrin has also attended the Executive programs at IMD on “Leading Digital Business Transformation” and “Future Technologies” at UC Berkeley.
