Mr Cresswell is  the Technical Director of the Hong Kong Shipowners Association (HKSOA), and is a marine engineer who has 40 years experience, operating, managing and building merchant ships. Prior to joining the HKSOA he was the Fleet Director of the China Navigation Company, a Swire Group company, for 15 years. Since taking up his role with the HKSOA Mr Cresswell attends the IMO MEPC meetings as advisor to the Hong Kong Delegation.

“Shipping is one of the oldest and most important worldwide industries with many very exciting changes ahead, the most immediate being a transition to zero emissions as soon as possible. This requires a substantial human effort, requiring cooperation on a global scale of which the ICS is a leading participant.”

Mr Cresswell was elected to the Chair of the ICS Marine Committee in September 2017. This important role allows him, in a modest way, to help the ICS maintain its leadership at the IMO, as the premier representative for shipowners worldwide.

He is a member of the Institute of Marine Engineering Science and Technology UK, IMarEST, The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, HKIE, and The Nautical Institute, UK, and is a member of ABS, DNVGL and LR Technical Committees in Hong Kong. Mr Cresswell lives in Hong Kong and continues to promote shipping, as a consultant to the Hong Kong Maritime Museum and as a Director of Adventureship, a Hong Kong sail training ship for schoolchildren.
