Toshiya Morishige was appointed Director General of the Japanese Shipowners’ Association in June 2020.  Previously he had taken the helm of maritime administration in Japan as Vice-Minister for International Affairs of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, after having served as Director-General of the Maritime Bureau.

With his long-standing experience and extensive knowledge of the public sector, having worked in government departments for more than 30 years, he is determined to tackle issues such as GHG, protectionist measures and the COVID-19 crisis.

“A sustainable shipping industry depends on well-balanced global regulations and public awareness activities. I am convinced that the role of ICS has never been greater, and  JSA, in close cooperation with the Japanese Government and other key players in the region, such as the Asian Shipowners’ Association (ASA), is pleased to contribute to ICS activities, fulfilling our social responsibility.”
