ICS committees

Specialist committees determine most of the detailed evolution of ICS' positions on a range of issues to ensure proposals are capable of being implemented successfully in practice. Altogether, 19 committees, sub-committees and panels support the policy set by the Board and handle particular aspects of ICS work. Each committee and panel is made up of representatives from national associations, including experts from their shipping company members. Each committee, sub-committee and panel elects one of their members as chair, who presides over meetings. The chairs of the four main Committees are invited by the ICS Board to report at the ICS Board meeting. An ICS secretariat member acts as secretary to each committee. Each committee has its terms of reference defined by the Board.

China Liaison Office

China is a hub for global shipping with over 6,000 ships in Chinese ownership, and an additional 2,600 ships under Hong Kong, China ownership. This represents over 15% of the world fleet, second only to Greece. We have witnessed the tremendous growth of the region, and the Belt and Road initiative is further changing the global dynamics of shipping, which is something that we can all benefit from. In setting up its China office in November 2019, ICS recognises the importance, and the influential role that Asian economies, and particularly China, play on the international stage.
