Ecuador

Ecuador is one of the major global departure points for illegal drugs. Ameripol (the Police Community of the Americas) considers Ecuadorian sea ports as constituting the current highest maritime risk point for illegal trafficking. Organised crime is prevalent in many of these ports and which intensifies the threat to the ship and crew. The port of Guayaquil is a principal trafficking departure point. Container ships should be particularly vigilant in this port. Other ports frequently targeted include Manta, in Manabía, and Puerto Bolívar, in El Oro.
