The international shipping industry is responsible for moving approximately 90% of global trade, making the prosperity of all national economies dependent on the efficient operation of the global maritime transportation system.
This system now faces significant challenges due to an increasingly volatile geopolitical environment, including threats to long-standing free-trade principles and the global maritime regulatory framework. Furthermore, rising security risks in the Red Sea, along with the urgent need for decarbonisation, add to the growing uncertainty surrounding the future of maritime transportation.
We look forward to welcoming industry leaders at the Hong Kong Global Maritime Trade Summit, which will seek to build consensus to help influence and shape future policy development, critical to maintaining an efficient global maritime transportation system.
This event presents a key opportunity to discuss with government representatives, regulators, and policymakers at the negotiations, and to seek the high-level political support needed to ensure the efficiency of global maritime transport during this period of heightened disruption and risk.
