The international shipping industry moves approximately 90% of world trade, and the prosperity of all national economies is dependent on the maintenance of an efficient global maritime transportation system.
The Hong Kong Global Maritime Trade Summit seeks to catalyse a global conversation between shipping industry leaders, ministers and senior policy makers, from both OECD and non-OECD countries, on the most pressing issues affecting the efficiency of global maritime trade.
Maritime transportation now operates within a landscape of increasing geopolitical turbulence with challenges to long-established free-trade principles and the maintenance of a global maritime regulatory framework, plus new threats to maritime security in the Red Sea and the challenge of decarbonization, all of which collectively contribute to overall long-term uncertainty.
This high-level dialogue amongst ministers and industry leaders will therefore seek to consider constructive and pragmatic ways for government policy makers to help maintain the efficiency of global maritime transport during this period of heightened disruption and risk.
The Hong Kong Global Maritime Trade Summit will seek to build consensus to help influence and shape the development of future policy critical to maintaining an efficient global maritime transportation system.
