Mexico is one of the principal destinations for illegal drugs leaving and arriving in transit to other countries, a point highlighted in the guidance received from Grupo Del Mex. Organised crime is prevalent in many Mexican ports which intensifies the threat to ships and seafarers on board. The ports of Manzanillo, Lázaro Cárdenas and Altamira are frequently used for smuggling activities and as such ships transiting through these ports should be particularly cautious.
